Gilbert Education Foundation Awards Over $20,000 in Grants

Over thirty teachers on twenty different campuses throughout the Gilbert Public School District recently found themselves treated to a very pleasant surprise – visits from representatives of the Gilbert Education Foundation offering monetary grants to fund the purchase of new equipment or proposed academic field trips. All in all, over $20,000 were given in grants to teachers of various subjects and ages over the course of a single school day.

Leanne McEachran, Executive Director of the Gilbert Education Foundation, described the experience of presenting grants as:

“Very rewarding- something I wish everyone could experience. People are grateful for the smallest and simplest things.”

Many teachers were overjoyed to the point of tears when receiving their grants, even if they were small amounts. The Classroom Grant Program was taken away for a number of years, but has now been revived for this year and hopefully more to come. Seeing the delight on these educator’s faces made the hard work members of the Foundation went through to make this program a reality all worth it.

The Gilbert Education Foundation is the fundraising branch of the Gilbert Public School district. In addition to the Classroom Grant Program the Foundation has the S.T.E.M. program (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), which provides students with exciting new curricula in those fields, and the Varsity Letter program, where students (particularly those with special needs) can complete volunteer service hours and earn a Varsity Letter. The Foundation also helps provide social services through the Valley of the Sun United Way.

Dedicated to paving the way for GPS students to have successful futures, the Gilbert Education Foundation awards scholarships through the support of local businesses and personal donations. In October of 2014, the Foundation held their first annual Fall Gala and raised $60,000 for scholarships and classroom grants. They are currently planning their second Fall Gala, to be held on October 25th of this year at the San Tan Elegante Conference Center. Be sure to save the date, and support the Gilbert Education Foundation as they strive to provide Gilbert educators and students with more opportunities for success.
